About Pittsburgh's Romanians

Although there is no real Romanian Quarter in Pittsburgh, on this site you can find information about and of interest to many Romanians living in the area or planning to move to or visit South-Western Pennsylvania

Our community

According to available data, at the end of 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, a thriving Romanian community was already firmly established in this area. Today, our numbers are lower - blame history!

Throughout the South-Western Pennsylvania, it is estimated that as many as five to eight thousand families have at least one member of Romanian ancestry. Those numbers go down to hundreds for the metropolitan Pittsburgh area, but they do not include the many Romanian students coming to and leaving the area's universities each year.

We get together for the annual Romanian Food Festival, a mid-summer picnic, soccer matches, fishing expeditions, film festivals, on Sundays at the Saint Andrew Church, birthday parties, weddings, and many other occasions. If you are new in town and don't know where to start, send us an email.

A small note: a Romanian language version of these pages will be available soon.
